“I Know What to Do… I Just Don’t Do It”

If you’ve ever found yourself saying, “I know what to do, I just don’t do it,” this is for you.

That feeling of knowing the plan—eating better, staying consistent, getting more sleep, responding calmly, remembering the thing—and still not being able to stick with it? It’s not just you.

The Invisible Load You’re Carrying

So many of the women I work with are not just navigating their own wellness—they’re also carrying the emotional labour of parenting a neurodivergent child.

They’re the ones advocating at school, monitoring routines at home, researching supplements, supporting regulation meltdowns, and trying to keep themselves afloat in the middle of it all.

The Quiet Questions No One Talks About

Behind closed doors, many of them are quietly wondering:

  • Why does this feel so hard?

  • Why can’t I stay consistent?

  • Why do I feel like I’m failing at something that should be simple?

They’ve tried the meal plans, the charts, the routines, the checklists.
They’ve read the parenting books, the ADHD books, the books on boundaries and nervous system regulation.

And still, there’s this loop of effort without traction—like no matter how hard they try, it’s never quite enough to feel steady.

It’s Not Your Fault

They start to think maybe it’s them.
Maybe they’re just not disciplined enough.
Maybe they’re not built for this.

But what if the issue isn’t you—or your child?

What if you’re both trying to function inside systems that were never designed for your brains?

Why Biology Comes First

Here’s what I see almost every day:
Sensitive, creative, intelligent brains trying to force themselves into structures that only work when:

  • blood sugar is stable

  • dopamine is flowing

  • the nervous system is regulated

And often—none of that is happening.

Because no one told you that consistency isn’t a mindset issue.
It’s a biology issue.

The Cost of Running on Empty

When you go all day running on coffee and leftovers from your child’s plate, your blood sugar crashes.

That doesn’t just make you tired—it affects:

  • mood

  • focus

  • emotional regulation

When you’re under chronic stress, your body stays in fight or flight.

Most Advice Isn’t Built for You

Most wellness advice assumes:

  • you have energy

  • your brain isn’t in sensory overload

  • the system is neutral

But for so many moms I work with, it’s not.

So no—you’re not lazy.
You’re not inconsistent.
And your child isn’t broken.

You’re both just functioning in an environment that doesn’t fully support what you need.

What Happens When We Start With the Body

When we begin with food—not in a diet-culture way, but in a brain-supporting, regulation-first way—things shift:

  • Blood sugar stabilizes → mood, focus, and resilience improve

  • Dopamine is supported → motivation returns

  • Systems don’t require perfection → consistency becomes possible

When moms stop blaming themselves and start receiving real support, the entire household benefits.

Because your regulation becomes the rhythm.

And your needs matter, too.

Your executive function—planning, remembering, prioritizing—takes a back seat.

And when your child struggles to start tasks or stay regulated?
Often, it’s the same biology: low dopamine, under-fueling, and an overwhelmed nervous system.

If nothing has stuck before, it’s not because you’re failing.

It’s likely because no one’s ever built a system around how you—and your child—actually function.

Different isn’t wrong.
It’s just under-supported.

You deserve care, not correction.
Your child does, too.

And it starts with learning to work with your body and your brain—not against them.
